Senior DevOps Engineer / Infrastructure Lead

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to take ownership of our infrastructure strategy and operations, assuming key responsibilities previously managed by our CTO. This role requires a seasoned professional who can architect, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade infrastructure while supporting our development teams and emerging ML initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture

• Lead the infrastructure strategy across all environments (development, staging, production), ensuring 99.9%+ uptime and optimal performance
• Design, build, and maintain scalable AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools (CloudFormation, Ansible)
• Architect and implement multi-region deployments, auto-scaling solutions, and disaster recovery systems
• Implement robust environment governance including data masking/anonymization for non-production environments, environment-specific secrets management, and compliance boundaries
• Establish and enforce clear environment separation with proper promotion pipelines - design isolated dev/staging/production environments with controlled data flow, access controls, and environment-specific configurations

DevOps & Automation

• Develop and manage sophisticated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CodeBuild, or similar platforms
• Implement GitOps workflows and automated testing frameworks for infrastructure changes
• Create and maintain deployment automation Using ansible, cloudformation, and other tools
• Build self-service infrastructure provisioning tools for development teams
• Work closely with Infosec and compliance on supporting and advancing our SSDLC
• Support and mature

Collaboration & Performance Optimization

• Partner closely with C++ and Python development teams to optimize application performance, reduce latency, and improve resource utilization
• Support C++ team with network optimization for high performance low latency applications
• Provide technical guidance on architecture decisions and infrastructure best practices
• Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning across all systems

Monitoring, Security & Compliance

• Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging systems (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, CloudWatch, Datadog)
• Establish security best practices including IAM policies, VPC design, secrets management, and vulnerability scanning
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) and implement audit trails
• Maintain infrastructure documentation and security incident response procedures

Operations & Reliability

• Own end-to-end incident response, including on-call rotation, root cause analysis, and post-mortem processes
• Design and test disaster recovery procedures and business continuity plans
• Implement chaos engineering practices and reliability testing
• Continuously optimize cloud costs while maintaining performance and reliability standards

Required Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• 5+ years of hands-on DevOps/Infrastructure engineering experience
• Expert-level knowledge of AWS services (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, VPC, etc…)
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible and Cloudformation preferred)
• Strong experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration
• Advanced scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go
• Experience with CI/CD tools and GitOps methodologies

Systems & Architecture

• Deep understanding of networking, security, and distributed systems
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
• Knowledge of database administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, etc.)
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible)
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) is a plus

Operational Excellence

• Proven track record of managing production systems at scale
• Experience with incident management and on-call responsibilities
• Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements
• Cost optimization experience in cloud environments
