The Physical Plant/Facilities department at Rockhurst University has an opening for an HVAC Technician II position. Primary responsibilities include inspection, repair, installation, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across campus, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, VAV systems, thermostats, and associated controls. In addition, the incumbent will assist other trades (plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.) as needed to effect repairs and/or to complete projects. This will involve close coordination with other facilities staff and the director on tasks that may not be HVAC related. Other responsibilities include replacing/installing filters, installing/repairing ductwork, adjusting records of the operating units/systems, and other related tasks. The position may have to operate Rockhurst vehicles and will be part of the “on call” rotation for facilities that requires specific on call duties periodically throughout the year. Other duties as assigned.
This position requires that the incumbent be an effective communicator, time manager, and have strong technology skills. The position must also be proficient in reading/understanding blueprints and must be comfortable using equipment and tools safely as well as working in confined spaces and/or heights. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of relevant HVAC certifications, relevant trade school and/or specialized training, e.g. welding, duct repair, Building Automation Systems experience, is preferred. Experience with Siemens and Web Control is a plus
- Three to five years full time experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Strong organizational, analytical, planning, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals
- Effective project management skills; detail and deadline oriented. Ability to read, comprehend and accurately interpret engineer’s drawings, architectural plans and hand drawn field sketches
