Job title: Systems Lead Technician

 

Job Summary

Top level technical expert in applications systems analysis and programming. This includes transformation of complex ERP database tables into higher level data sets suitable for use by business analysts. The position is also responsible for technical setup and maintenance as well as creation and support of interfaces and custom applications/reports. Acts independently under general direction. Provides technical leadership on complex projects. May act as expert in business or functional area. Formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of desired results. Prepares detailed specification from which programs will be written. Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming. May be responsible for multiple phases of a project. May have duties instructing, directing, and checking the work of other applications systems analysis and programming personnel. May have quality assurance review responsibilities or systems testing leadership responsibilities. Provides input on the evaluation of other associates.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical expert for integrated building systems, providing advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of complex faults across various platforms and technologies.
  • Lead the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of new or upgraded building control systems, sensors, actuators, and associated network components.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of system performance data from BAS and other platforms to identify anomalies, optimize operations, and implement predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot network infrastructure (e.g., Ethernet, BACnet/IP, LonWorks, Modbus) supporting building systems, ensuring robust and secure communication.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all assigned systems to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Provide functional supervision, technical guidance, and hands-on training to a team of Systems Technicians (journeyman and apprentice levels).
  • Plan, schedule, assign, and prioritize daily work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and project assignments for the systems team, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely completion.
  • Monitor the progress and quality of work performed by the team, conducting thorough inspections and providing constructive feedback and corrective actions.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in performance evaluations, technical skills assessments, and the onboarding/training of new systems personnel.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning, skill development, and cross-training within the team.
  • Operate, monitor, and optimize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to control HVAC, lighting, and other environmental systems for energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational continuity.
  • Manage and maintain fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA standards and local fire codes, including testing, inspection, and repair.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot electronic security systems, including access control (card readers, locks, door contacts), CCTV (cameras, NVRs/DVRs), and intrusion detection systems.
  • Program, calibrate, and fine-tune system controllers, sensors, and field devices for optimal performance and data accuracy.
  • Manage system backups, software updates, and firmware upgrades to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Maintain highly accurate, detailed, and up-to-date documentation for all systems, including wiring diagrams, programming logic, as-built drawings, software configurations, and maintenance records.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or Government-mandated equivalent for work order management, asset tracking, and historical data analysis.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on system performance, energy consumption, equipment status, and maintenance costs for management and GSA representatives.
  • Participate in GSA-required audits and inspections of building systems
