About the role

The Industrial Engineer will be an essential member of the Supply Chain team responsible for planning and leading project and process improvement initiatives within the Distribution and fulfillment network.  The incumbent will be responsible for managing and driving projects related to distribution and fulfillment network processes and continuous improvement initiatives, especially regarding a focus in automation.  This individual should effectively exhibit JD Finish Line’s core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties:

  • Performs network and facility level analysis of operational data and metrics; provides recommendations based on analysis of key metrics that directly impact operational costs.

  • Lead the design, implementation, and integration of automation systems (robotics, conveyors, automated guided vehicles, etc.) into existing manufacturing processes.

  • Helps identify and implement expense reduction opportunities related to overall supply chain initiatives.

  • Assists in overseeing automation-related projects from conception through completion, including scope definition, timeline management, resource allocation, and ensuring projects meet performance, cost, and quality goals.

  • Analyze current workflows and identify opportunities for automation to optimize operations, enhance production capacity, and reduce manual labor.

  • Lead, manage, and support labor management projects and activities utilizing data from the Manhattan 2012 Warehouse Management System and other databases.

  • Leads change management processes with ability to translate recommendations into clear and precise functional requirements.

  • Designs, develops, and implements operational reporting, tools and dashboards, specifically related to key performance metrics or cost drivers.

  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement by Leading and applying Lean methodologies.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in automation technologies (robotics, AI, machine learning, IoT) and assess their potential for enhancing production efficiency.

  • Identifies and implements expense reduction opportunities related to overall supply chain initiatives.

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in data gathering, mining and engineering.

  • Lead teams in delivering actionable solutions and act as a bridge between Business and analytical teams.

  • Lead, develop and support Best Practices, SOP’s, Training and Reporting. 

  • Provides consistent and timely communication with supply chain leadership, to present current status, acquire consensus of future needs and forecasts, and mitigate potential risk.

  • Utilize AutoCAD program for conceptual designs, maintain and update layouts as needed

  • Support external partnerships with vendors, contractors, and consultants.

  • Lead and participate in multiple projects of varying scope and complexity as needed from conception to implementation.

  • Travel required by air 25% to 50% of the time or as required to participate in projects.

  • Additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience-

Minimum of 2 - 4 years’ experience in industrial, supply chain, or operations engineering required, preferably in a retail distribution environment. Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Industrial Engineering from a four-year accredited program focusing on supply chain, or operations engineering, preferably for a retail distribution environment. Internal JD Finish Line experience is a plus. 

Required Computer and Technical Skills-

Advance knowledge and proficiency in G-Suite (Google Docs, Sheets and Slides) or Microsoft Office equivalent programs. Data mining fundamentals required.  

Preferred Computer and Technical Skills-

Intermediate knowledge of Manhattan 2012 Labor Management, Kaizen methodology, AutoCAD, and oracle SQL.
