The Advancement team supports the University's strategic vision and academic mission, handling development activities and alumni relations.Position purpose:
Directs the activities of the Office of the Vice-President, Advancement, to fully implement its mandate and goals. Establishes and maintains channels of communication and regularly liaises between various stakeholders and the office.
Handles strategic planning and management of the infrastructure and central services necessary for university and faculty fundraising and alumni activities. Ensures operational efficiency and fosters a service and partnership culture within the advancement enterprise. Handles strategic management and direction of:
- Advancement operations: financial management, human resources, gift processing and record administration
- Prospect identification, research and management
- Systems and data
- Special projects
Drives the section forward, ensuring operational excellence and alignment with the section’s strategic objectives. Works closely with the vice-president, advancement, and with executive directors and senior managers on a variety of projects and initiatives of strategic importance.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Plans, organizes, leads and monitors all initiatives for which the Office of the Vice-President, Advancement, is responsible. Advises the vice-president on institutional issues and supports the vice-president in implementing the University’s mandate. Using detailed analysis, advises senior management on all issues affecting resources, in support of initiatives.
- Designs, manages and evaluates projects and programs in several key areas to advance the University’s strategic goals. Develops project proposals, liaises with stakeholders, and oversees activities and expenses to ensure they are aligned with project objectives. Evaluates results and ensures accountability to stakeholders.
- Manages the Office of the Vice-President, Advancement, supervising the executive assistant and ensuring smooth functioning of all work, including producing briefing documents, supporting materials and presentations, as well as travel planning and more.
- Advises and supports unit and service managers under the advancement office’s responsibility by helping them plan and develop their organizations, set policies and procedures, and implement processes to ensure efficient and effective operations that meet all requirements. Liaises between the vice-president, advancement, other vice-presidents, chiefs of staff, associate vice-president, deans and vice-deans.
- Leads advancement services and helps scale the advancement infrastructure for effective engagement and fundraising.
- Oversees a customer-, alumni and donor-centred advancement operation that positions central and faculty development and alumni staff for success. Provides strategic planning, management and direction to support and promote advancement service and operational best practices.
- Establishes a review process for advancement services and operations, identifying strengths, gaps, resourcing needs, team abilities, succession plans, professional development and potential blockages or structural challenges to the unit’s growth and success.
- Directs and supervises administrative and financial activities. Determines budgetary priorities, performs financial analyses, proposes strategies and exercises budgetary control, to ensure advancement office administrative and financial accountability.
