The Opportunity

Airbyte is building a new product to help developers of AI applications load in their user’s context to create more powerful agents. We call this new product “Airbyte Embedded.”  The growth in AI products for support, sales, marketing, enterprise search (and more) is unprecedented, and all of these new AI-powered tools need access to numerous source systems quickly and reliably.  We’ll be leveraging Airbyte’s existing connectors and parts of our infrastructure, while building our own data, communication, and syncing layer for this product.  We’ll also be integrating AI data preparation into the syncs (e.g. OCR/parsing, embedding calculation, etc).  We’ve started a dedicated new team to focus on solving this and related problems at-scale, and are looking for our first engineering hire.

We are building distributed systems with tools like FastAPI, React, Postgres, DuckDB, and Docker, as well as the services provided from AWS and GCP.  As a Founding Full-stack engineer, you enjoy solving problems and building leverage at all layers of the technology stack.  You are quickly able to understand and be productive in new technologies, but necessarily aren’t an expert in all of them.  If you’ve been a previous founder before, and you love working with customers to develop new products, like the first version of a big-data, AI-centric, SaaS product, we would love to hear from you!

What You’ll Do:

• Pioneer new frameworks and patterns for extracting from Airbyte’s myriad sources and incrementally delivering them to operators. 
• Build core technologies to manage a fleet of high-volume data connectors on behalf of our customers.
• Craft a platform that orchestrates fast, reliable, and observable data movement and normalization.
• Co-develop the operations for this new product (with the help of Airbyte’s existing experts), including support and sales.
• Drive step function improvements in performance & reliability at scale.
• Build leverage: a week-long task this year should take ten minutes next year.
• Shape the roadmap for the team.
• Write high-leverage code.

What You’ll Need:

• 6+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years of Python experience
• Deep knowledge of some part of a data pipeline stack (e.g. Postgres, Snowflake, Iceberg, Kafka, Spark)
• Familiarity with AI/LLM tools and the pipelines that power them (RAG, embedding, agents)
• Experience in profiling and optimizing high-performance applications
• You have an insatiable desire to ship.
• You take a user-centric approach to building products and developer tools
• You enjoy building leverage through abstractions and tooling that multiply output
• Ability to influence without authority and work with engineers junior and senior
• A passion for continuous learning and improvement (both at a personal and team level)
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills

• San Francisco Office, 3x/week

  Salary for this job

• $183,000- $220,000 +  a generous equity package, and benefits listed below for US Market.
