For over 20 years, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD) has been serving students with diverse genders and sexualities at The Pennsylvania State University. Boasting robust student support services and educational initiatives focused on student success, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity has helped to make Penn State one of Campus Pride’s top LGBTQ+ premier campuses.

The Center for Sexual and Gender provides opportunities and fosters networks across the greater Penn State community to better understand and support the diversity of our world along with acknowledging that everyone deserves to thrive during their educational journey as their authentic selves. To create safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments for all sexual and gender diverse students, our undergraduate, graduate, and full-time staff strive to center the experiences of transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary students. As part of that support, we have worked with campus and community colleagues to enhance the coordination of services for our gender diverse communities with a newly defined staff position complementing and furthering the existing work happening within and outside the CSGD.

The Gender Diverse Community and Belonging Coordinator has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, the following:

Case Management and Resource Support

• Provide guidance and referrals to transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse and non-binary student populations on topics related to on-campus employment, health insurance, housing accommodations, financial aid, and personal wellness.

• Work closely with campus partners across the Penn State campuses who support transgender, gender diverse, gender non-conforming, and non-binary students.

• Support capacity-building for colleagues in other student-centric functional areas across the Penn State campuses to ensure that deeper awareness of and greater sensitivity to gender justice and diversity.

• Meet and interact with individual students to assess their educational, cultural, and social needs.

• Support and advocate for students experiencing challenges and provide empathic emotional, educational, and cultural support.

• Make referrals to related resources as needed.
