The Senior Manager, Design for Sustainability (DfS) – Industrial Solutions is responsible for deploying and operationalizing Design for Sustainability practices across the Industrial Solutions segment. This role partners with engineering, product management, procurement, operations, and corporate sustainability teams to integrate sustainability considerations into product design, material selection, and development processes.

The role is a hands-on segment enabler, translating corporate sustainability strategy into practical design standards, tools, and behaviors that engineers and product teams can apply at scale to achieve short-term and long-term sustainability goals

Job Requirements

  • Design for Sustainability Deployment

    • Deploy Design for Sustainability principles across Industrial Solutions product development activities, aligned with TE’s One Connected World strategy and product sustainability priorities.
    • Support the integration of sustainability requirements into product development processes, design reviews, and engineering standards.
    • Drive adoption of common DfS tools, guidelines, and checklists across engineering teams.
    • Translating enterprise sustainability strategy and targets into IS segment roadmap and priorities over a multi‑year horizon.
    • Serve as the IS segment owner for DfS KPIs, leading regular performance reviews with BUs, interpreting results in the context of engineering reality, and partnering with Corporate Sustainability to drive actions, priority interventions, and continuous improvement.

    Product & Engineering Partnership

    • Partner with engineering and product teams to identify and execute opportunities for:
      • Product carbon footprint reduction
      • Material efficiency and lower‑impact material choices
      • Design for circularity (recyclability, durability, recycled content)
    • Support product carbon footprint (PCF) improvement initiatives in coordination with sustainability and engineering experts.

    Cross‑Functional Collaboration

    • Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to align preferred materials, supplier sustainability capabilities, and design choices that support Scope 3 reduction goals.
    • Work with Operations to ensure sustainable designs are manufacturable, scalable, and cost‑competitive.
    • Support Product Management and Commercial teams in articulating sustainability benefits to customers.

    Capability Building & Change Management

    • Develop and deliver DfS training and awareness for engineers and product teams within the Industrial Solutions segment.
    • Promote best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvement related to sustainable product design.
    • Act as a DfS subject matter expert within the segment, providing guidance and coaching to project teams.
    • Drive BUs to establish DfS capacity and capability within the BU team.

    Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

    • Support the development and tracking of product sustainability metrics relevant to Industrial Solutions.
    • Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities and escalate insights to segment and sustainability leadership as appropriate.

What your background should look like

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Sustainability, or a related technical field.
  • 6–10 years of experience in engineering, product development, or technical program roles, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience applying sustainability concepts within product or process design.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills in a matrixed organization.
