Description

The Senior Environmental, Health  Safety (EHS) Specialist will work in conjunction with the EHS manager towards continuous safety improvements and support of the Verily's EHS Policy through the implementation of safety procedures consistent with the company's requirements and applicable EHS regulations, codes and standards. 

Responsibilities

  • Develops corporate EHS programs and policies. Program support may include but not limited to: chemical management, biosafety, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, radiation, hot work, confined space, management of change, hazardous energy control, management of change, EHS management software and other EHS programs.
  • Have a strong influence in the design, construction, and permitting of new R&D facilities including the management of permits and licenses, and interfacing with regulatory authorities, and other organizations, as needed for continuing operations
  • Leads investigations of events that lead to injury/loss, identifies root causes, and develops solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders on laboratory projects in biosafety, facility engineering, and laboratory operations.
  • Experience managing teams and leading multidisciplinary efforts for project solutions, overseeing multi site operations, and collaboration with key stakeholders to develop corrective and preventive action plans

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Four year college degree (Bachelors) in a related field (e.g., environmental, safety, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering) with 7-10 years of EHS industry experience in biopharma or R&D laboratories.
  • Understanding of EHS regulations (federal and state), applicable consensus standards (e.g., ANSI; NFPA; NEC). 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders with professionalism, sensitivity, and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification preferred (e.g., CIH, CHMM, CSP, etc)
  • Experience as a biosafety officer, radiation safety officer, or chemical hygiene officer
  • Experience with EHS software
  • Ability to motivate others and lead through example on an individual and team basis through various site committees and interactions.
  • Experience maintaining and managing day-to-day health, safety, emergency response, environmental compliance activities in a rapidly changing environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 - $184,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
