Job Summary
A medical assistant plays a crucial role in providing support to healthcare providers, ensuring efficient patient care, and maintaining the smooth operation of a medical facility. They contribute to the overall patient experience by delivering compassionate care, performing administrative tasks, and assisting with medical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Patient care: Assisting healthcare providers in patient care activities, such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and documenting medical histories.
- Medical procedures: Assisting with medical procedures, such as administering medications, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and performing basic point of care tests.
- Patient education: Providing patients with information and instructions regarding their medical conditions, medications, and treatment plans.
- Communication and coordination: Facilitating effective communication between patients, healthcare providers, and other medical staff.
- Compliance and safety: Adhering to healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and safety protocols to protect patient confidentiality
- Electronic health records (EHR): Proficiently using electronic health record systems to document patient information, update medical records, and retrieve necessary data
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Graduate of a certified medical assistant program
- Basic Life Support at the Healthcare provider level training
- Experience in primary care or clinical setting
- Bilingual Spanish
Preferred:
- Skilled with electronic medical records and email messaging systems.
- 1 year of experience in a primary care or clinical setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
