The Maine Commission on Public Defense Services is seeking to fill one Deputy Director of Operations position.

PDS is an independent commission whose purpose is to provide high-quality, efficient representation to indigent citizens who are entitled to counsel at state expense. The ability to telework at times is available. 

JOB DUTIES

This purpose of this position is to provide operations services essential to the mission of the Commission, including day-to-day management of the financial screeners’ operations, the non-counsel voucher program, and accounts payable operations. The position will be involved in human resources, purchasing and resource planning, and working in close collaboration with the Executive Director. The position also oversees the Audit Division. The position will also draft and review administrative rules and guide the agency through the administrative rulemaking process. The position will also draft proposed statutory language and testify at legislative hearings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be an experienced attorney licensed to practice law in Maine. Applicant must be knowledgeable about and have an interest in the administration of the public defense system in Maine. Applicant must have strong oral and written communication skills; be detail-oriented; be able to think critically, problem-solve, and analyze complex issues; have supervisory skills; be proficient in public speaking; and be able to manage their time efficiently while balancing a large workload.
