<p><strong>Position Objective:</strong></p><p>Performs laboratory specimen collection from patients for diagnostic purposes.</p><p><strong>Essential Job Duties:</strong></p><p>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p><ol><li>Determine and execute the best method for obtaining biological specimens from patients of all ages (venipuncture, capillary, heel-stick) to ensure quality specimens for testing. Follow established productivity guidelines with minimal errors.</li><li>Order appropriate tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as requested by authorized providers. Resolve unusual or unclear test orders by contacting the ordering provider; respond to requests for lab results and send scheduled reports.</li><li>Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during blood collection.</li><li>Prepare aliquots of samples and shipping batches for transport within the hospital campus or to contracted laboratories following vendor protocols. Register, draw, and ship client specimens.</li><li>Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations. Promote inter- and intradepartmental workflow through cooperation and effective handoffs.</li><li>Maintain laboratory supply inventory and conserve resources by using equipment and supplies appropriately.</li><li>Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot equipment problems to the full extent of ability.</li><li>Practice proper patient identification verification; manage work queues to ensure accurate and complete registration including demographics, insurance, service date, ordering caregiver, and special flags.</li><li>Actively participate in the laboratory quality plan/program (e.g., investigative reports, notification of delays).</li><li>Participate in the training of new staff and students by serving as a mentor and technical resource.</li></ol><p><strong>Educational/Experience Requirements:</strong></p><p><strong>Required Minimum Education:</strong></p><ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent</li><li>Specialized training in phlebotomy</li></ul><p><strong>Required Minimum Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>One year of experience in an outpatient or acute care facility in an equivalent role, preferred</li></ul><p><strong>Required License/Certifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Phlebotomy certification with the National Phlebotomy Association or American Society of Clinical Pathology (or eligible), preferred</li><li>Current Ame
