Who are we looking for?

We have an outstanding leadership opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer – to lead our staff, manage projects and assist in managing programs in our established Honolulu office.

As the Hawai’i Business Leader, you will work closely with the Pacific Business Group Leader and US Federal Sector to deliver design projects primarily located in the Pacific region for the various Markets and Businesses GHD serves, particularly the defence sector. You may also assist with managing staff in the Honolulu office and take an active role in project management, client management and staff management and business development. In your role you will also support GHD’s clients and assist with bids and proposals to help develop and grow GHD’s presence and market share in the Pacific region for delivery of engineering and design services, as well as other GHD services. The role will provide leadership in developing and delivering a range of projects and in leading and mentoring a team of engineers and technical specialists.

Working with an energetic and hard-working team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Providing project and program leadership within the Hawai’i office in line with GHD’s values and objectives
  • Developing and supporting business opportunities and ensuring sustainable growth of GHD’s Pacific business.
  • Assisting in identifying employee candidates, interviewing, and hiring to grow the Hawai’i office staff.
  • Assisting in managing project performance, people, and resources in the Pacific region

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experienced at all stages of the project life-cycle, including scope and fee proposals, feasibility studies, basis of design reports, calculations, consulting, design drawings and specifications, construction cost estimates, and construction, and managing customers expectations.
  • Experienced leading multi-discipline teams – e.g., architects, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and fire protection engineers.
  • Experienced in managing military construction (MILCON) projects.
  • Familiar with both design-build and design-bid-build project delivery.
  • Committed to sustainable building practices, beneficial for modern projects. Experience in Energy Related projects.
  • Experienced in engineering business acumen suitable for program management.
  • Familiar with local markets for engineering and construction with experience in both.
  • Experienced working with federal and local government clients preferred; Uniform Facilities Criteria (UFC) and other Department of Defense engineering requirements.
  • Well-connected in the local A/E market and influential with the Pacific defense agencies.
  • Capable of building and developing relationships with the other GHD Regional BGLs, GHD Federal Sector client leads and program managers and supporting relationships with existing and potential clients and partners, with a focus on winning work and project delivery.
  • Building effective relationships with Regional Business Leaders, Federal Sector Leaders and with Market Leaders within and outside the Region.
  • Adept in written and oral communication.
  • Able and willing to travel to project job sites and client offices as needed.

What you will bring to the team:

  • 20+ years professional experience in engineering consultancy and/or engineering program and project management.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an ABET accredited school in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar degree.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • LEED AP BD+C desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable.
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) desirable.
  • Demonstrated technical capability across your area of expertise, including all project phases from project
