About the role

About Us

Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster. We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen.   Our values guide us —they are present in how we show up, make decisions, and work together to make an impact. We’re curious, driven, collaborative, genuine and humble.   Temporal is growing and we are looking for those who share our values, challenge 'standard' thinking, and want to influence our future. If you have a passion for improving the developer experience, building world-class open-source software and communities, and want to be a part of our amazing team, we'd love to hear from you!

Summary

We are seeking a strategic and analytical Senior Financial Analyst or Finance Manager with deep experience in consumption-based revenue models to join our high-impact Finance team. In this role, you will play a critical part in forecasting, analyzing, and partnering with Engineering and FinOps to manage cloud infrastructure costs across multiple providers. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, G&A, and Data teams to design scalable frameworks for monitoring margin performance, cloud usage patterns, and key financial metrics.

This high-visibility role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, data-driven environment, brings curiosity and problem-solving rigor, and understands the nuances of modern SaaS and usage-based pricing models. You will have the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making, partner with leaders across the company, and help shape the financial framework for a growing, category-defining technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, and FinOps to track and forecast cloud infrastructure spend across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
  • Model the impact of infrastructure usage and cost on gross margins, especially at the product and customer level.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to understand new product launches and features, assessing expected revenue and margin impact.
  • Develop cost attribution frameworks tying infrastructure costs to specific products, features, or usage patterns.
  • Provide business case support for infrastructure investments, architectural decisions, and vendor negotiations.
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support annual planning, rolling forecasts, and departmental budgets, including headcount planning.
  • Partner with HR and department leaders to monitor workforce plans, hiring pacing, and budget variance.
  • Track and analyze actuals vs. budget for discretionary and non-discretionary expenses, providing clear insights on spend trends.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc business reviews for executive leadership, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting, and planning processes to enhance scalability and accuracy.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–8 years of experience in FP&A, Strategic Finance, or Business Operations, ideally within high-growth cloud/SaaS environments.
  • Direct experience analyzing and forecasting cloud infrastructure spend (AWS, GCP, Azure) and understanding key cost drivers.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations that influence cross-functional strategy.
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, financial modeling, and experience with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Omni).
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences, including non-finance stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial systems and data infrastructure such as NetSuite, Salesforce, Snowflake, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and building scalable processes from the ground up.
  • Interest in contributing to an inclusive, collaborative culture that values diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a quantitative field; MBA, CPA, or CFA is a plus for Manager-level candidates.
