This position is responsible for supporting the TechOps organization to plan, communicate, and deliver at MongoDB. The successful candidate will partner closely with the all teams and business stakeholders, develop and maintain a short and long term roadmap, ensure that objectives are realistic and achievable, and support TechOps to deliver. Project delivery will consist of both process and technology improvements. You will oversee a global team of project managers, program managers, and scrum masters. You have seen what “good” looks like at scale in terms of both processes and technology to support portfolio management, and you understand how to find the balance with “just enough process”. You are a creative thinker, you are collaborative, you are a problem solver and you find ways to continuously improve. You challenge the status quo, and do not accept the answer, “because it has always been this way”, while supporting executives in making challenging and complex decisions that enable MongoDB to hire and retain the best employees on the planet. You are comfortable communicating to C-level audiences and can advise on strategic trade offs.
This role can be based out of our New York City, Palo Alto, or San Francisco offices or remotely in the United States region.
Responsibilities
- Establish a project governance structure, including defining roles and responsibilities, to ensure that projects are prioritized and aligned to business priorities and objectives, and that the program portfolio has proper oversight
- Develop a rolling 24 month TechOps roadmap
- Communicate appropriately to all level of stakeholders to ensure transparency, providing clarity on the overall progress and health of the portfolio
- Ensure that the TechOps project portfolio is staying within time and budget constraints
- Work with the program teams to resolve blockers and manage risks
- Escalate decisions appropriately to ensure timely resolution
- Assist TechOps in the transition to Agile and stand up a strong scrum master community
- Align TechOps processes to other technical program management groups and program management office elsewhere in MongoDB to reuse learning and share knowledge
- Ensure that the TechOps planning process supports the company strategic business objectives
- Plan and schedule efficiently in a way that ensures silos are eliminated and cross-team planning is managed effectively
- Work across TechOps to ensure that all cross-functional programs are properly staffed and can successfully execute, including managing dependencies on internally developed technology
- Consult and provide recommendations for gaps and areas of opportunities with scalable and standardized technology solutions where possible
- Facilitate cross-functional discussions to gain consensus and drive the execution of products and features from inception through production rollout and support
- Ensure that TechOps has room in the portfolio to pay down existing technical debt
- People management for a global team, providing coaching, career development, performance management
- Lead and facilitate cross functional team meetings to initiate and implement company wide strategic initiatives (with a "what's in it for me" approach to collect buy in from stakeholders)
- Revamp/Redesign internal processes used by the business and TechOps to reduce/eliminate project delays (ex: PD Doc, Scoping Doc etc)
- Implement project metrics to hold teams accountable
Qualifications
- 10 or more years of experience in an IT business systems, business operations, product management, or a consulting role
- 8 years or more of people management, including at least 5 years on the second line of management
- Extensive knowledge Agile best practices, principles, and roles
- Ability to ‘think big’ with a strategic mindset to develop the medium-long term roadmap and strategy, while being able to adapt and be creative in problem solvings to meet immediate operational needs.
- Able to communicate effectively with both C-suite, business stakeholders and engineering teams to conceptualize and sell ideas internally and attain win-win outcomes
- Proven track record of building effective relationships with Executives and senior leadership
