What You Will Be Doing:
The Interpreter provides support to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, families, and medical staff providing care. They administer care to designated patients and provides support to the care team under the direction of the clinical nurse. They serve as the liaison between clinical, medical staff and patients and/or families. They assure care of patients and families is reflective of IU Health's values.
We are seeking a Certified Medical Interpreter in Spanish who has the required Bridging the Gap (BTG) certification or is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI).
What You Will Need:
- Bridging the Gap certificate
- Medical Interpreter Certification when available
- High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor's degree preferred.
- High level of oral and written fluency in English and target language (i.e. Burmese and Hakha Chin languages).
- Knowledge and cultural understanding of target communities (i.e. Burmese and Hakha Chin).
- Knowledge of diverse medical terminology in English and target language.
- May require additional training and appropriate certification in language interpretation.
Prior interpreting experience in target language (i.e. Burmese and Hakha Chin languages) in a medical setting preferred.
