Job Description

Under general direction, this position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and logistical guidance for planning, implementation, and assessment of the school-based Special Education program. This role ensures compliance with all State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, and serves as the point of contact for IDEA educational, compliance, and administrative activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate assistant administrators.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction, leadership, and accountability in the curriculum development
  • and implementation of instructional and related services for students with disabilities. Models and provides training to teachers in effective instructional strategies and Specially-Designed Instruction.
  • Trains, monitors, and evaluates teacher effectiveness (TKES); to include bi-weekly lead 1:1 meetings and observations.
  • Plans and delivers professional learning opportunities on a variety of topics related to services for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to ensure accurate student scheduling, timeline compliance, and FTE data reporting.
  • Leads and facilitates weekly special education team meetings; with appropriate redelivery of district/state training materials and/or updates.
  • Participates in school-based leadership meetings, district administrative meetings, data meetings, and district Special Education meetings.
  • Assists with the special education teacher and admin hiring process, including screening, and holding special education interviews
  • Assists with student scheduling to include: transcript/credit audit in collaboration with the Counseling department, course scheduling, alignment of Special Education Services with course coding, and ILP/IGP completion.
  • Collaborates with the  provision of Hospital Homebound services
  • Collaborates with district Test Coordinator to ensure accuracy of state/district testing accommodations.
  • Serves as Local Education Agency Representative in Special Education meetings.
  • Monitors, maintains, and assists in reporting IEP/Eligibility compliance for k-12 special education.
  • Monitors implementation of school-wide engagement plan and provisions of due-process to include scheduling of MDR's, and/or noted evaluations, IEP amendments, etc.
  • Documents provision of IEP services via collaboration with Related Services team and/or service providers/contractors.

  • Serves as school-based point of contact for parents (grade band), high-profile cases, due process, and special education complaint proceedings as designated by the Grade Band Principal and/or Assistant Director of Special Education, Instructional Programs.
  • Assists with the oversight of monthly special education data collection and data review process in relation to academic targets.
  • Assists with the oversight of tracking and monitoring entering and completion of received consents for evaluation and initial eligibility referrals.
  • Facilitates personnel matters to include progressive disciple, hiring, and termination.
  • Compiling Temps/Subs/Interns/Student Teachers/Contractor statistics and creating reports as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by school and/or district administration

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Grade Band Principal, this position could directly supervise 20-50 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) employees and/or contractors, e.g. Special Education administrators, coordinators, managers, supervisors, facilitators, specialists, teachers, and other SE program support positions.
