Position Summary

The Mass Spectrometry Technology Access Center (MTAC) at Washington University, St. Louis has an opening available for highly motivated applicants for the position of Research Technician I. The MTAC is a newly created recharge facility within the McDonnell Genome Institute (MGI), serving regional, national, and worldwide researchers for their mass spectrometry needs.

This position assists with the technical aspects of wet-lab processes including documentation and preparation of mass spectrometry samples following well established Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs). The Tech I is responsible for the preparation of protein samples for proteomics analysis or extract metabolites/lipid for metabolomics applications.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, mass spec sample preparation, preparation of HPLC solvents, and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Meticulous documentation of client samples from receiving through data return.
  • Runs SDS PAGE protein gels.
  • UV-Vis Spectrophotometer for BCA protein quantification.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. 
  • Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

$16.54 - $22.35 / Hourly
