At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation’s designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG).
At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to hire an Senior Mechanical Technician onto our team to support program efforts and contribute to success at this major DoD Test Facility.
Specific duties include (but are not limited to):
- Calibrate, operate, maintain, fabricate, and repair mechanical test equipment.
- Build exhaust systems as needed.
- Perform high-level preventative maintenance including replacing worn belts, greasing bearings, repairing fans and blowers, repairing discharge stacks, and adjusting volume dampers and hood baffles in test fixtures.
- Fabricate and weld test fixtures.
- Experience with vibration systems, including cryogenic liquids, high pressure liquids, and oxygen displacing vapors (CO2 and N2) is desired.
- Utilize various instrumentation such as temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, pH, conductivity, and particulate concentration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
- Work is mostly performed in an indoor industrial setting but field work outdoors under changing weather conditions may be required depending on the location of equipment.
- May be required to lift and handle heavy items (50 lbs.).
- Stand/walk, climb, stoop, bend and push and pull for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks that require such protective gear.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in the calibration, operation, maintenance, fabrication, and repair of mechanical test equipment.
- Must be familiar with building exhaust systems and as a minimum, be able to perform high-level preventative maintenance, including replacement of worn belts; greasing of bearings; repair of fans, blowers, and discharge stacks; and adjustment of volume dampers and hood baffles in test fixtures.
- Must be proficient in the design, fabrication, and welding of test fixtures.
- Experience with vibration systems including cryogenic liquids, high pressure liquids, and oxygen displacing vapors (CO2 and N2) is desired.
- Must be experienced using various instrumentation such as temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, pH, conductivity, and particulate concentration.
- A commitment to maintaining a productive and collaborative working environment.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must have a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain this clearance throughout employment.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical, as well as periodic retests.
