Your future role within our team
Join BBA and put your experience to work by
actively contributing to various project phases as a Protection and Controls
(P&C) Engineer. You’ll be involved in designing protection and controls
systems for high‑voltage and medium-voltage (HV/MV) transmission systems,
distribution systems and power plants across the United States and Canada. You’ll
also be responsible for supporting site mandates to ensure work quality and
system compliance before energization. You’ll play a key role in project
management, client coordination and delivering high‑quality projects with the
BBA team.

- Prepare protection and control
deliverables such as electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, protection
logic and control schemes
- Prepare protection relay setting
and configuration files (GE, SEL, ABB, Siemens, etc.)
- Prepare engineering studies and
reports (protection coordination studies, short circuit analysis, power
flow calculation, arc-flash analysis, battery and charger calculations,
transformer sizing, etc.)
- Develop HMIs, network
architectures and RTU configurations
- Help prepare technical
specifications, reports and other documentation for protection and control
systems
- Assist with commissioning and
testing of protection and control systems
- Review and seal (Professional
Engineer License) protection and control designs
- Develop or review outage, cut-over
and testing procedures
- Collaborate with client technical
representatives
- Work on proposal development,
including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications and estimating
project costs

Summary of certifications and job
requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical
engineering
- Registered as a Professional Engineer
or eligible to register within one month of hiring
- Over 8 years of experience within
electric utility, power generation and renewables industries in the U.S.
- Hands-on experience preparing
protection system basis-of-design documents
- Knowledge of CADD software
- Experience preparing logic
diagrams, protection philosophies, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams,
three-line diagrams and other P&C deliverables
- Experience selecting, setting and
troubleshooting protective relays (SEL, GE, Siemens)
- Experience preparing engineering
studies and reports (protection coordination studies, short-circuit
analysis, power-flow calculations, arc-flash analysis, battery and charger
calculations, transformer sizing, etc.)
- A working knowledge of
communication protocols (MODBUS, DNP3, IEC61850)
- Knowledge of relay testing
equipment and experience with P&C commissioning
- Experience preparing project
estimates
- Excellent computer skills,
including proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Basic understanding of utility
cybersecurity standards
- Asset: experience configuration
and programming PLCs and DCS
