About this Role
Carrier is looking for a talented and motivated engineer leader who will be a lead Carriers North American Ductless and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) team to enable the development and launch new products as well as sustaining the current products. The role can be located in Syracuse, NY or Indianapolis, Indiana, which is the North American center for Carrier’s product design and development, as well as groundbreaking innovative research. We ideate, design, verify and validate new products and technologies across Carrier’s global portfolio, supporting Carrier’s goal to be the global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.
This role would focus on the development of new products in Carrier factories but also working with outside vendors to develop products also. The role will also focus on sustaining the current and new products, ensuring regulatory compliance as well as meeting our customers needs. Key Responsibilities
- The Ductless and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for the technical leadership and management of product development, sourcing projects as well as sustaining and regulatory compliance.
- As the technical leader for assigned products associated with product development teams, this individual will:
- Working with product management to develop 3-5 year product and technology roadmaps.
- Working with all functions to develop the product requirements for all projects to ensure they meet the customer needs.
- Work with program management to drive the staged gate process to deliver products on-time, budget and meeting the customer needs.
- Working with the business to understand the competitive landscape and develop solutions.
- Utilize Carrier Excellence (Six Sigma) to aligning goals and embedding daily management and problem solving to achieve those goals
- Develop a solid understanding of design related agency standards which these products fall under including UL 60335-2-40, AHRI 210/240 and AHRI 1230 and their impact on product requirements
- Be responsible for sustaining activities of Ductless and VRF products that are currently in production.
- Work with the regulatory and compliance organization to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards as well as long term regulatory roadmap to compliance.
- Manage a team of senior and junior engineers in multiple locations to develop and launch developed products as well as products with our partners
- Work with lab personnel and management to ensure successful completion of test plans and unit builds.
- Work with the laboratory leadership to develop a long-term roadmap for testing needs as aligned with the product and technology roadmap.
- Communicate product requirements to joint venture and other OEM suppliers and insure that products meet these requirements.
- Develop project schedules and manage the project team to complete tasks within the identified time frames
- Develop support material for new products including installation and service manuals, product data manuals, service manuals, etc.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain annual RD&E plans.
- Develop and manage departmental expense budget
- Support and lead quality and cost improvement projects as required
- Willingness to take on any task or project that will benefit the group or company.
- Successful candidate must be willing to establish relationships and communicate directly with overseas suppliers.
- Requires some communication during non-traditional working hours.
- Approximately 25-30% travel, international required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical engineering discipline with 10+ years of professional electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering experience
OR
- Master’s Degree in a technical engineering discipline with 7+ years of professional electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project management experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead a development
