Description
The Center on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University seeks a Program Officer (Researcher) to independently produce research at a high-quality level, under supervision of the Program Director Multilateral Reform Program and Director Justice and Inequality or senior program staff. The Program Officer, under the guidance of the Program Director, takes a lead role in the development and drafting of reports, fact sheets, project proposals and other written publications. The Program Officer is also able to develop programmatic objectives and strategies; manage various, discrete aspects of program development and implementation, problem solve, maintain knowledge-based research networks and contacts, and identify new frontiers of knowledge and funding sources. The program officer is able to conceive high level, innovative approaches to engage stakeholders, independently put together high-level events and manage workflows.
Responsibilities
- Contribute, independently and in collaboration and with input from with senior staff, to all phases of the research process (design, execution, analysis, and writing), as outlined in CIC’s Research Business Plan and Pathfinders internal strategy.
- Contribute to and support program directors, associate directors, senior program officers, and others in their work with UN entities, member states, civil society, think tanks and others to identify and develop innovative approaches to research and evidence, implementation and follow-up.
- Support research agenda and program management/execution, including by organizing meetings and events, finalizing, preparing relevant and related policy and meeting briefs, managing publications and translations, generating content for the website, newsletters and other outlets.
- Support outreach, engagement and collaboration with member states, UN entities, civil society, and research partners, businesses and other stakeholders through events, meetings, briefings, and other actions. Lead in some convening and long-term partnership development activities.
- Write practical, policy-oriented publications that are concise and polished in quick turnaround times. Proactively draft communication about the program’s work through blogs, social media, and other channels, in coordination with Pathfinders and CIC’s communications staff.
- Support program directors and associate directors to manage grants, budgets, donor relations, project staff, and consultants, including in grant reporting, and proposal writing with full responsibility for specific, concrete administrative subtasks.
The Program Officer reports to the Program Director Multilateral Reform and Program Director Justice and Inequality and keeps them closely informed of efforts and progress.
Qualifications
Required Education
● A master’s degree with minimum 7 years of relevant experience. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
Required Experience
● 7 or more years of relevant work experience, including within the government, non-government and multilateral sectors.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● Experience and detailed understanding of the inner workings of the United Nations including the UN Security Council, UN General Assembly and Executive Office of the Secretary General
● Experience with relevant research and practice in the areas of multilateral reform, financing for development, crisis prevention or the promotion of peace, justice and inclusion.
● Experience in managing relations with high level government counterparts, senior UN staff and civil society representatives.
● Experience in research, writing and analysis; experience with literature reviews.
● Experience in planning, scheduling, and organizing meetings, including high-level meetings.
● Drafting and preparing briefing notes and records of high-level meetings.
● Experience providing support to senior managers/directors and high-level officials.
