Job Description:

Mission Statement:
To foster a deepening understanding of the past by collecting, preserving, and sharing the historically significant memories of individuals according to the highest ethical and professional standards; to work with scholars across disciplines to design and execute innovative research projects; to equip community groups in their oral history endeavors; and to mentor students in the interdisciplinary field of oral history.
Job Summary: 
Primarily to serve as an office assistant for the Texas Oral History Association (TOHA), providing support to the Secretary/Treasurer, as well as the editor of TOHA’s annual journal, Sound Historian
Secondarily to serve as transcriber of oral history interviews (including proofreading and audit-checking). 
Job Function:
•    TOHA office duties include:
o    Create content for the TOHA social media platforms
o    Aid in the construction of the TOHA quarterly newsletter, Sound Bites
o    Assist in the planning and execution of the annual conference held each September
o    Aid in various administrative tasks for the Sound Historian journal and TOLD database
•    Transcribe audio recordings from oral history projects that may be collected by the institute
•    Audit-check/proofread transcripts and research spellings of names and terms utilizing departmental and online resources

Learning Outcomes:
•    Develop speed and accuracy producing and processing transcripts
•    Strengthen research skills through expanded knowledge of primary sources at the institute
•    Gain knowledge on oral history methodology including how to develop a project

Hard Skills:

Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and be able to conduct basic internet research as needed. Applicants should also be able to work independently to complete projects. Social media experience desired. Excellent typing skills preferred. Experience with digital audio media is a plus.
