Title:
Software Engineer with DevOps AspirationsKBR is seeking a Software Engineer with DevOps aspirations to support our government client in Orlando, FL. This engineer will provide support for the development and acquisition of trainers and simulators of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) and potentially other vessels and/or systems. The ideal candidate will be someone who knows Unreal and is fluent in newer versions of C++. They enjoy reviewing software designs to confirm compliance with design specifications. They are good at troubleshooting and determining early on when a design approach is flawed. They excel at reviewing code written by others to find bugs and missing features before coding is complete. They are communicative and responsive.
In this role, you will be working on a KBR team which provides engineering, logistics management, and instructional system design support to DoD organizations developing trainers and simulators for military aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, naval surface vessels, and unmanned/semi-autonomous watercraft.
Daily work can be performed onsite or remotely with onsite in-person meetings at Orlando, FL occurring 1 - 4 times per month.
Candidates local to Orlando can expect to travel 3 - 5 times per year.
Candidates who are not local to Orlando can expect to travel 9-15 times per year.
Role and Responsibilities:
Performs all activities associated with the design, development, implementation, maintenance, configuration management and quality control of software for DoD simulation and training applications.
Evaluates/analyzes contractor written code; detects discrepancies in design and implementation of code; tests and troubleshoots code.
Encodes, tests, debugs, and installs operating programs and procedures.
Provides analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of software.
Plan and organize projects, direct the project through the different phases, and provide task estimates.
Oversees contractor work.
Works autonomously, directing and coordinating the work of engineers and other technical personnel engaged in the compilation of engineering data, construction and testing of models, designing subsystem components, writing reports and test procedures.
Serve as company representative advising customer and contractor personnel on technical requirements for products or services, support equipment and equipment installation.
Plans, develops, and executes simulation training activities to include scheduling, development of databases, exercise scenarios, workstation player/controller interaction, exercise execution, and participation in After Action Reviews.
Analyzes performance during computer simulation exercises and prepares exercise scenarios to support exercises.
Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.
Analyzes and evaluates systems and devises computer specifications.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in computer science, systems engineering, information technology (IT), or related field plus 5 years of progressive related experience. In lieu of formal education, at least 13 years of progressive experience in a related field.
Eligibility for a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Must be able to travel to the government client facilities in Orlando, FL as required.
Ability to work on a diverse team.
Desired Skills:
Understand advanced software development practices
Experience conducting code reviews and static code analysis
Familiarity with Unreal 5, C++
Familiarity with Unity, C#
Evaluate/analyze/troubleshoot code
Has in-depth knowledge of DOD, Agency, and/or industry standards and engineering requirements.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of system administration, such as provisioning and managing servers, deploying databases, security monitoring, system patching, and managing internal and external network connectivity.
Familiarity with DevOps tools
Familiarity with Configuration Management tools
Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) tools to automate the process of building, testing, and deploying software
Understand how to model system infrastructure in a cloud
Preferred Qualifications:
- Existing DoD Secret Security Clearance
