Job Summary

The Dept Manager is responsible for the overall management of the production department for a 24 hours/day and 365 days/year facility. This includes the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of a Natural gas plant and all associated equipment. Power plant responsibilities would include operating multiple units and responsible for meeting the commercial commitments and requirements of the local ISO . The Dept Manager is responsible for daily coordination with the Maintenance Department on preventative and corrective maintenance activities, coordination with key support services for equipment availability and testing, as well as long range power generation planning. These responsibilities encompass operations from the current day and planning for up to several years.

Key Accountabilities

Power plant operations involves:
  • The daily operations of the facility. This includes meeting the expected load output, scheduling of the units, communication with the local ISO and communication with the department workforce.  
  • Manage department to comply with all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish team goals and expectations for continuous improvement. Meet or exceed department goals.
  • Develop and adhere to department budget.  Participate in the annual LRP process for establishing long term planning.
  • Select, develop and manage a diverse workforce.
  • Effectively collaborate with applicable internal and external business partners.
  • Effectively administer company policies, labor agreements and work rules.
  • Occasionally assume the responsibilities of the Plant Manager during his/her absence
     

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to some of the skills listed.

  • 7 years supervisory/management experience, or at least 10 years related supervisory/management experience preferred.

Meet or exceed all annual business objectives – including but not limited to:

  • Safety, environmental and regulatory compliance. 
  • Production: Meet established goals and improvement initiatives.
  • Complete all human resources related activities including but not limited to performance management, compensation administration and workforce planning.
  • The Dept Manager has direct supervision for Luminant Exempt and Non-exempt employees, indirect supervision for Luminant Exempt, Non-exempt and Bargaining Unit employees and coordination of Business Partners responsible for supporting the plant. 
  • Selects, develops, and manages a diverse work force.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, problem solving and team building.
  • Occasional long, irregular hours. May require the employee to work in excess of 12 hours per day and in excess of seven (7) consecutive days. Could require travel and overnight stay.
