About the role

Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity to deliver successful commercialization of our PRRS Resistant Pig. We are looking for a Technical Production Manager. This position will be responsible for leading supply chain activities supporting production planning, inventory tracking, product dissemination and on-farm development and implementation of our QMS program (PIC Quest) by working cooperatively across a multi-functional team. This role will coordinate the initial supply and dissemination of PRP breeding stock and semen to ensure the highest quality and optimization of availability.

The successful candidate will be able to grow and maintain relationships with key partners across our business and use their skills to aid in the development, communication, implementation and monitoring of key processes across multiple sites. Success will be aided by the ability to work in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment while establishing priorities, meeting deadlines & maintaining accuracy. The candidate must work autonomously as well as collaboratively across functional teams while analyzing and problem solving and possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. 

The position is remotely based in the Midwest region of the United States.

You Will

  • Ensure FDA compliance of the EVERTHRIVE – PRP production through development, oversight and implementation of the PIC QUEST Quality System Management program across PIC owned and operated facilities including farrow-to-finish and gene transfer centers.
  • Interact with the Global Supply Chain Logistics group to ensure accurate and timely exports of EVERTHRIVE – PRP breeding stock to emerging global market opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting associated with Standard Operating Procedures associated with producing EVERTHRIVE – PRP pigs.
  • Participate in contract negotiation by providing production metrics for renewal of multiplication and SLN EVERTHRIVE – PRP contract partners; drive development of strategy for growth, prospecting and qualification of new and/or expansion of existing multipliers and SLN partners.
  • Create integrated processes among internal functions and outside suppliers.
  • Develop systems to measure and maximize utilization of products produced by contract multipliers and SLNs; use this knowledge to bring unique solutions to PIC leadership.
  • Collaborate with relevant functional areas to ensure delivery of support services
  • Remain current in area of responsibility through establishing a network of industry & academic contacts, studying literature and attending scientific/industry meetings.
  • Maintain proficiency in relevant new production technologies and practices.
  • Travel 50% of your time, domestically and internationally.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline (animal sciences, biotechnology, etc.).
  • Minimum of five years’ experience within intensive swine production systems, containing a diverse skill set including knowledge of animal husbandry, production system management, supplier relationship management, account management, and technical writing.
  • Proven experience in the successful communication, training and implementation of standard operating procedures via a Quality Management System approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications; ability to learn new software programs.
  • Must maintain biosecurity requirements and approved downtime (both swine & cohabitation) as required by PIC and their customers.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a production environment routinely operating under applied research, genetic testing and selection or FDA animal health requirements.
  • Experience in developing and implementing SOP-based production practices.
  • English and Spanish communication abilities.
