Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati (UC) - Clermont College Department of Mathematics, Computers, Geology, and Physics invites applications for a tenure-track 9-month Assistant Professor of Physics position beginning fall semester of 2025.

 

Essential Functions

Faculty responsibilities include teaching 12-credit hours per term, typically fall and spring semesters, utilizing both in-person and online modalities.  Teaching may also include evening classes.  Class sizes generally range from 16-35 students taught to a diverse student population ranging from high school students taking college courses, both traditional and non-traditional students, and a sizable population of first-generation college students. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education that includes Pre-College, freshmen and sophomore level courses.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach many of the courses taught by the physics faculty. Currently, these courses include Algebra and Calculus-based Physics and their accompanying labs, Physics for Allied Health Professionals, and Introductory Astronomy courses.  Additionally, engaging in physics and/or physics education research is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the governance and committee work of the department, college, and university, and potentially develop new physics courses aimed at 1st and 2nd year college students. 

Minimum Requirements

Education Requirement

  • A doctorate in Physics, Physics Education, or other closely related field
  • A minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Physics.
  • Candidates must have doctorate prior to the effective date of the appointment.

 Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement

  • A minimum of one year of College-level teaching experience, which can comprise graduate school instruction where the candidate is the primary instructor rather than a recitation Teaching Assistant. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in teaching physics courses in both face-to-face and online environments.
  • Evidence of excellence in physics education pedagogy and professional development in their physics discipline.
  • Evidence of high-quality instruction and retention of 1st and 2nd year college students.
  • Teaching experience with a diverse learner population including first-generation college students.
  • A commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive teaching.
  • Evidence of service to their department, college, discipline, and community.
