This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. As part of a rapidly evolving team supporting C-Shift operations, you’ll be responsible for working closely with engineering design and company leadership to support all manufacturing efforts and equipment related to building avionics hardware and harnesses. Role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate the manufacturing of complex avionics devices and harnesses.
- Interpret and translating engineering documents intent and drawings into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight by crafting avionics manufacturing bill of materials and work instructions.
- Maintain cognizance of ~1000 distinct parts throughout various stages of manufacturing.
- Maintain documentation pedigree to support human rated flight avionics.
- Develop internal specifications required to support the manufacture of device and harness assemblies.
- Take ownership of a complex production schedule that will support multiple programs needs simultaneously. Supporting introduction of new products by crafting manufacturing plan artifacts including build plans, duration estimates, index plans, and tool lists
- Take ownership of product quality, establishing procedures and processes to support continuous improvement. Non-conformance report (NCR) generation, management, & closure.
- Take ownership over configuration management of flight inventory. Providing shipside/lineside support on the manufacturing floor
- Identify, procure and manage the tools required to manufacture flight avionics and harness equipment and hardware.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or relevant field
- 2-3 years Prior experience in design and manufacturing environments specific to production of complex systems in areas of aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, automotive manufacturing or similar
- Proven experience and successful team track record working in a matrix organization.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals for Avionics Electro-mechanical design and manufacturing, including knowledge of GD&T and Electrical Fundamentals.
- Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc). Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands on experience with building flight hardware
- Experience 4+ years in an engineering capacity managing large scope and data sets
- Experience with design, development or production of Aerospace/Launch vehicle spacecraft, or satellites.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma processes and implementation
- Experience with safety critical systems
- Proficient with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo or CATIA V5)
- Customer focused with a proven track record to work cooperatively with teams of different skills across large geographic distances.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
