Summary:
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a guest‑first, hospitality‑driven Concession Supervisor to lead teams in creating welcoming, efficient, and memorable food‑service experiences for every guest. This role is responsible for ensuring concession locations operate smoothly and safely while consistently delivering friendly, attentive, and high‑quality service that supports the Zoo’s mission of creating unforgettable family experiences.
The Concession Supervisor plays a hands‑on leadership role, working alongside frontline teams during high‑volume service, anticipating guest needs, resolving concerns in the moment, and maintaining environments that are clean, inviting, and guest‑ready at all times. This position models positive hospitality behaviors, coaches staff through daily interactions, and ensures service standards reflect warmth, professionalism, and care in a fast‑paced concessions setting.
The Concession Supervisor partners closely with the Assistant Manager of Concessions to support team engagement, service excellence, and operational consistency. This role requires availability five days per week with a varied schedule to support peak guest attendance and special events.
This position reports directly to the Concessions Assistant Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Guest Experience and Hospitality Leadership
Champion a guest‑first culture by setting clear expectations for friendly, efficient, and engaging service at all concession stands.
Actively support frontline team members during peak service periods to ensure smooth flow, short wait times, and positive guest interactions.
Anticipate guest needs and proactively resolve questions or concerns to ensure a positive and memorable experience.
Ensure concession locations are consistently clean, organized, and welcoming for guests of all ages.
Uphold the Zoo’s service standards by modeling professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness in every guest interaction.
Team Supervision and Development
Assist in supervising daily operations and performance of up to 150–250 concession employees, including Shift Supervisors and Crew Leads.
Support hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching to develop a reliable, service‑focused team.
Reinforce a positive work environment through clear communication, recognition, and engagement.
Ensure Shift Supervisors and Crew Leads are properly trained on service standards, equipment operation, inventory procedures, and required documentation.
Review schedules with Shift Supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing levels that balance guest service and operational efficiency.
Operations, Safety, and Quality Standards
Supervise daily opening, closing, and sanitation procedures to ensure compliance with safety, cleanliness, and quality expectations.
Train and enforce proper food preparation, portioning, presentation, and food‑safety practices.
Monitor compliance with all food safety, sanitation, cash‑handling, and Zoo operational guidelines.
Maintain strong cash‑control practices and ensure point‑of‑sale procedures are followed consistently.
Ensure each assigned concession stand meets Zoo standards for quality, safety, service, and cleanliness.
Inventory, Cash, and Administrative Support
Assist with inventory control, product receiving, transfers, and secure storage for concession locations.
Support daily ordering processes and review sales versus staffing to maximize efficiency.
Assist with maintaining accurate records for product usage, inventory, and cash reporting.
Support vending machine operations, portable food carts, recycling initiatives, and special events.
Attend scheduled department meetings and assist with departmental projects as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of one year of food service management or supervisory experience.
Strong commitment to guest service and team leadership in a high‑volume environment.
Prior training or certification in areas such as frontline supervision, cash handling, or food safety is preferred.
ServSafe Certification required (Zoo will assist if not currently certified).
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to operate and train team members on point‑of‑sale systems.
Knowledge of food‑service equipment, ordering, inventory control, and safety standards.
Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, and possess a valid driver’s license with a good history.
