The VP role will be responsible for designing and executing the underwriting strategy for AIG’s Group Captive products by facilitating profitable and sustainable business. This will encompass business-as-usual referrals, SOP development, portfolio management, and underwriting governance. This role will also serve as the senior point of reference and expertise for Home Office referrals and the North American Casualty Underwriting Officer.

How you will create an impact

  • Efficiently handle difficult and/or unique referrals from underwriters that exceed underwriting authority across the Group Captive casualty portfolio.
  • Strong leadership in cross-functional teams ensuring high-quality underwriting, adequate pricing, sensible business processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with associates in Actuarial, Finance, Operations, Claims, and Distribution to ensure a team approach to deliver customized and innovative solutions to captive intermediaries/insureds.
  • Provide mentoring, training, and skill building to underwriters and professional associates.
  • Liaise with the CUO’s office to obtain approval on risks which exceed delegated underwriting authority.
  • Review business processes / analytics and provide leadership in the decision-making on required underwriting actions.
  • Develop and update Group Captive’s risk appetite in coordination with Captive Solutions’ management team.
  • Lead the execution of underwriting best practices and guidelines to ensure pricing adequacy and adherence to risk appetite.
  • Ensure all underwriting directives and compliance processes are followed, adhering to underwriting authority and underwriting guidelines.
  • Underwrite and oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of one large captive program.
  • Work closely with Operations / IT / Actuarial to ensure systems (SCUP) are built fit-for-purpose for the Group Captive business unit.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Minimum 10+ years of Commercial Casualty Insurance Company experience, with a focus on alternative risk or captive business.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Extensive underwriting experience within US Casualty lines of business (Workers’ Compensation, Auto Liability, and General Liability) across small, midsized, and large risks with advanced working knowledge of product features, forms, regulatory environments, and concentration risks, etc.
  • Strong background in various program structures including, but not limited to, Guaranteed Cost, Deductibles, Captives and Self-Insured Retentions.
  • Sustained track record in casualty underwriting with at least 10 years of senior underwriting and portfolio management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of optimizing underwriting profits through sound underwriting decisions and risk selection in casualty lines of business.
  • Travel required – 33%

For positions based in New York City, the base salary range is $155,300-$171,250 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
