General Description/Primary Purpose:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking a 12-month, non-tenure earning, Lab Lecturer of Chemistry. Position responsibilities include a teaching load of 5-5-2 sections in fall-spring-summer. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and general chemistry laboratory courses, in addition to laboratory courses in modern analytical, biochemistry, and/or organic chemistry dependent on candidate experience; preparing chemicals and equipment to ensure the lab space is in good condition to teach laboratory experiments; working with the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Technician to provide lab support each term; and determining supplies and consumables to be ordered to support teaching labs. In addition to teaching, service to the department, college, and university will be required.

 

Supervisor: This position will report to the Department Chair, Dr. Bryan Knuckley.

 

Working Hours: Varies

 

Supervision Exercised:  This is not a supervisory role.

 

Required Licensure: N/A

 

Anticipated Start Date: The position is expected to begin on August 3, 2026.

 

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications / Skills:

  • Previous, documented experience in teaching undergraduate chemistry lab courses.

 

  • Demonstration of the commitment and capability to provide an excellent learning environment to students, to work with student-centered methods of instruction, and to contribute to the continuing development and implementation of curricular content.

  • General Teaching Philosophy (1-2 pages) that includes: 1) Prior teaching experience and 2) Strategies for teaching students with varying levels of prerequisite knowledge and helping them succeed and persist in STEM disciplines.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials by the date of hire.

About the Department:

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UNF offers Chemistry baccalaureate degrees, with concentrations in General Chemistry, Pre-medical Professions, and Materials Science, and a Biochemistry baccalaureate degree. Master’s level degrees are offered in Materials Science and Biomedical Sciences, but other programs are being developed closely related to drug discovery and health research.
