The IEA is recruiting a Senior Energy Analyst to lead the analysis of the supply chains of new and emerging clean energy technologies and their components across a range of sectors. He/she will lead the development of the modelling of supply chains and trade of technologies and materials, and lead the analysis and drafting of related insights for release in flagship reports, in particular the IEA’s bi-annual Energy Technology Perspectives (ETP) publication as well as other relevant reports.

The successful candidate will have a strong analytical background related to clean energy technologies as well as energy systems modelling, and a proven track-record in drafting reports and briefings under tight timelines, translating complex technical questions into accessible messages to non-expert audiences and high-level decision-makers.

The chosen candidate will be part of a dynamic team of enthusiastic professionals in the IEA’s Energy Technology Policy Division. The division analyses current and possible future roles for new and emerging clean energy technologies and their supply chains, spanning from end-use sector applications to the provision of low-emissions fuels such as hydrogen, and the required distribution infrastructure.

Job Description

Energy analysis

• Contribute to all aspects of the preparation of the IEA’s Energy Technology Perspectives (ETP) publication. In particular, lead the analysis and modelling of the supply chains of clean energy technologies and trade.

• Coordinate the preparation of other reports, in particular relating to clean energy technologies and their supply chains. Lead quantitative and qualitative analysis of technology issues confronting the energy sector for inclusion in these reports.

• Supervise, co-ordinate and guide multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary staff engaged in analysis of topical clean energy technology issues.

• Be responsible for drafting reports and/or individual chapters of reports with input from modelers/analysts and technical experts in a way that key messages are accessible to a non-expert audience and policy-makers.

• Supervise and be directly involved in modelling long-term scenarios of clean energy technology and material supply chains, including trade.

Liaison and Outreach

• Collaborate with other Directorates in the Agency, the OECD and other national and international organisations, the energy industry and research bodies in the analysis of the impact of energy market developments on the macro-economies of Member and non-Member countries.

• Participate in meetings of IEA standing committees, working parties and other groups and their preparations as required; participate in relevant meetings of other international organisations; provide support for the development of reports, analyses and information items for these meetings. Hold presentations in these meetings as required.

• Maintain contacts with members of national delegations, other international organisations, representatives of industry, and other institutions involved in energy market assessments.
