Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would have prior supervisory experience as well as experience in the best practices and procedures that support the duties, responsibilities, and skill sets required of an Industrial Mechanic Intermediate & Journeyman. This position supervises a group of skilled technicians in the everyday repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment used in lift stations, water, wastewater, reclaim and distribution systems across all of Hillsborough County. Candidate should have experience with and the ability to teach and train subordinate staff to work on a variety of industrial equipment including; pumps, valves, piping, gearboxes, air systems, gas compressors, gas service turbine generator, grit chambers and chemical systems. This candidate should have advanced knowledge of and be able to coach staff on how to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment as well as know the predictive and preventative maintenance tasks related to the equipment found in an industrial water/wastewater facility. Candidate would possess at least a CMRT certification or equivalent mechanical certification and have extensive knowledge of the local, state, and federal compliance regulations as applicable to this industry. Candidate would function as a self-motivated supervisor who keeps his team engaged while keeping his chain of command informed. Candidate would have no issues completing necessary paperwork associated with the position as well as being able to time manage themselves and staff while communicating regularly with staff to determine resource needs and assigning work tasks to subordinates as needed. Candidate would have advanced understanding of schematics, blueprints, diagrams, system drawings, laser alignments, and ultrasound equipment operation, that are in line with the mechanical field. Candidates will be willing to work overtime as needed, must understand that participation in a 24/7 afterhours standby rotation program is required after successful completion of probation. Candidates should possess computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. and knowledge of a computer operated work management system.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Supervises staff, equipment, and resources for the assigned functional section in the Public Utilities Department.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance actions for the assigned functional area.
- Analyzes performance reports to determine program effectiveness and recommends appropriate program adjustments to management.
- Monitors equipment repairs for progress and conformance to specifications and standards.
- Communicates regularly with staff to determine resource needs.
- Provides cross training to personnel to increase operational efficiency.
- Assigns subordinate work tasks and establishes guidelines for personnel training, evaluation, scheduling, discipline, daily operations, and preventative maintenance.
