Provo City is looking for an Equipment Operator I to provide semi-skilled operation of light equipment in the Energy department.

This position focuses on operation of machinery to assist with the continued production of energy services in Provo City. Civic-minded individuals interested in supporting the numerous services provided to the residents of Provo City are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay rate: (G23) $21.46 - $29.58 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?

• Safely operate equipment including trenchers, dump trucks, ditch witches, chipper machines, concrete saw, sod cutter, and other machinery.

• Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment in the field.

• Perform general mechanical repairs of trucks and department equipment and repairs to electrical systems.

• Perform general maintenance and grounds care.

• Assist line workers in setting poles and other related tasks.

• Assist in the installation and maintenance of underground conduits, power silos, transformer pads.

• Dig holes for power poles and the installation of anchor rods.

• Set, install, and repair streetlights, bases, and underground street lighting wire.

• Assist in locating underground lines.

• Rewire fixtures.

• Assist other crew members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum qualifications?

At All Levels

• A valid, current Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Level I

• 1 year experience as a laborer, equipment operator, or other job-related field.

Level II

• Two years of experience as an equipment operator I

• OR three years of experience in the safe and skilled operation of applicable equipment.

Senior

• Two years of experience as an Equipment Operator I

• OR five years of experience in the safe and skilled operation of applicable heavy equipment.

• Lead work or supervisory experience preferred.

What is the selection process?

This position is open until filled and will be closed when sufficient, qualified applications to proceed with a competitive selection process have been received. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements listed above to be eligible for consideration. If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
