Job Description Summary:

 

Administers treatment to patients according to treatment plans outlined by a licensed physical therapist. Fabricates adaptive equipment and splints, documents patient progress, and provides patient and family education.

Essential Functions:

• Attends continuing education programs and participates in departmental in-service training programs to enhance professional development.
• Conducts formal and informal Physical Therapy educational programs for hospital staff, students, and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs and unlicensed personnel, supervising care provided.
• Develops and administers therapeutic treatment programs, as developed by the Physical Therapist, to children with developmental delay or functional deficits, to provide optimal development, function, and independence.
• Documents objective status and goal progress in compliance with requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations. Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling, entering daily charges, and submitting timely documentation.
• Educates on treatment goals and therapy plan, instructs on therapeutic activities to follow at home; documents instruction; and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding. Refers patients to community agencies to ensure the needed and appropriate services are received after discharge.
• Fabricates or provides adaptive equipment, splints, or casts to maintain functional body joint positions, restrict muscle contractures, prevent deformities, improve function or mobility. Fits patient and instructs on use of item.
• Utilizes developmental activities and other treatment techniques to meet specific needs and achieve goals, observes progress or changes and communicates status, collaborating with supervising therapist, physicians, third-party payors, and relevant healthcare providers.

Education Requirement:

Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy, required.

Licensure Requirement:

State of Ohio Licensure, required.

Certifications:

CPR certification no later than 60 days post hire or post expiration, required.

Experience in a pediatric setting or clinical affiliation in pediatrics, preferred.
