Job Summary
Under the direction of skilled facilities professionals, student employees assist with maintenance, make-ready, and building support tasks to prepare facilities for summer conferences and fall student occupancy. No previous maintenance experience is required, training is provided by the facilities team.
General Position Responsibilities:
Perform general maintenance and building support tasks to prepare residence halls, apartments, and facilities for summer and fall occupancy.
Assist with basic preventive maintenance tasks such as changing air filters and inspecting mechanical rooms.
Install bulletin boards, signage, and basic fixtures as assigned.
Utilize the electronic work order system to receive, complete, and document assigned tasks.
Assist Mechanic Technicians and maintenance staff with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and other trade-related repairs as needed and as trained.
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and storage locations.
Follow all safety procedures, departmental policies, and university guidelines.
Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with staff, residents, and summer conference guests.
Required Qualifications:
Currently enrolled student at the University of Texas at Austin or another accredited institution.
Ability to perform physical labor and learn facility maintenance skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Dependable attendance and reliability throughout the summer employment period.
Ability to lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in facilities maintenance, skilled trades, or building operations.
Experience using tools, performing hands-on work, or working in custodial or facilities environments.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in university housing and facilities.
Exposure to varying weather conditions, heat, noise, dust, and mechanical equipment.
Position requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing stairs and ladders, and use of manual dexterity.
Work Schedule and Duration:
Temporary summer position running from May through the end of the summer term.
Up to 40 hours per week, based on operational needs.
Work schedule will be between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Residence Halls on Main Campus (various locations)
University Apartments
Rate of Pay:
$13.00 per hour

No prior experience is required. This position offers on-the-job training and hands-on experience working alongside skilled facilities professionals in a university housing environment.
