Job Summary

Under the direction of skilled facilities professionals, student employees assist with maintenance, make-ready, and building support tasks to prepare facilities for summer conferences and fall student occupancy. No previous maintenance experience is required, training is provided by the facilities team.

General Position Responsibilities:

• Perform general maintenance and building support tasks to prepare residence halls, apartments, and facilities for summer and fall occupancy.

• Assist with basic preventive maintenance tasks such as changing air filters and inspecting mechanical rooms.

• Install bulletin boards, signage, and basic fixtures as assigned.

• Utilize the electronic work order system to receive, complete, and document assigned tasks.

• Assist Mechanic Technicians and maintenance staff with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and other trade-related repairs as needed and as trained.

• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and storage locations.

• Follow all safety procedures, departmental policies, and university guidelines.

• Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with staff, residents, and summer conference guests.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled student at the University of Texas at Austin or another accredited institution.

• Ability to perform physical labor and learn facility maintenance skills.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Dependable attendance and reliability throughout the summer employment period.

• Ability to lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in facilities maintenance, skilled trades, or building operations.

• Experience using tools, performing hands-on work, or working in custodial or facilities environments.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors in university housing and facilities.

• Exposure to varying weather conditions, heat, noise, dust, and mechanical equipment.

• Position requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing stairs and ladders, and use of manual dexterity.

Work Schedule and Duration:

• Temporary summer position running from May through the end of the summer term.

• Up to 40 hours per week, based on operational needs.

• Work schedule will be between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Work Locations:

• Residence Halls on Main Campus (various locations)

• University Apartments

Rate of Pay:

• $13.00 per hour

No prior experience is required. This position offers on-the-job training and hands-on experience working alongside skilled facilities professionals in a university housing environment.
