Description
The Davidson Honors College (DHC) at the University of Montana invites applicants for the Teaching, Research, and Mentoring (TRM) In-Residence Fellowship Program. TRM Fellowship Program promotes a learning community grounded in high-impact teaching practices, cross-disciplinary inquiry, exceptional student mentoring, and a commitment to the teacher-scholar model.
The postdoctoral fellow will be required to live on campus in a faculty apartment connected to Knowles Hall, home of the Honors Living Learning Community (LLC). In return, the postdoctoral fellow will receive employer-paid housing, utilities included, in a furnished two-bedroom apartment in the Knowles building. This apartment includes a private entrance, all major appliances, a designated parking spot, and is partner/dependent and pet-friendly. The TRM fellow will have a dedicated office in Knowles Hall, and will be provided with a laptop computer.
Examples of duties and responsibilities:
- Teach two honors courses per semester, to include:

- Art of Inquiry, an interdisciplinary research methods course.
- Ways of Knowing, a first-year course.
- In alternating semesters, interdisciplinary honors courses and/or honors courses in their discipline.
- Actively pursue research and/or creative scholarship in their area(s) of expertise, and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning in honors.
- Engage undergraduate honors students in research or creative scholarship projects that align with their own research interests.
- Mentor Davidson Honors College students with the goal of promoting students' academic, professional, and personal development.
- Hold a minimum of four office hours per week.
- Attending appropriate meetings with DHC and housing staff.
- Hosting two enrichment events per semester with the Living Learning Community.
- Serve on scholarship and selection committees, participate in DHC events and committees, and contribute to UM’s honors and the broader UM community.
The TRM postdoctoral fellow is expected to demonstrate initiative and leadership, engage students from diverse backgrounds, work collaboratively with colleagues, and value honors education’s emphasis on academic excellence and diversity of thought.
Position Details:
- Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12-month appointment, renewable for an additional year contingent on funding and performance. Position includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
- Salary for this position is $45,000-$48,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree within five years of the hiring date.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and/or mentorship, including high-impact practices.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor students from a variety of backgrounds.
- Evidence of impactful research and/or creative scholarship.
- Experience with or appreciation of honors education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Published, peer-reviewed research or creative scholarship.
- Experience teaching experiential, online, hybrid, cross-disciplinary, or team-taught courses.
- Successful student mentoring and advising.
- Interdisciplinary research and teaching experience.
- Experience or interest in living-learning communities.
