Ideal for students who have begun gaining relevant experience and are building their skills through internships, part-time jobs, or significant projects. Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.

Position Scope

• Performs high quality percussion music of various Polynesian cultures for one or more shows, or as a member of the Promo Team.

• Attends regular rehearsals to upgrade the quality of performance and showmanship, and to increase personal repertoire.

• Assists in setting the atmosphere for various shows and special events by providing prelude and exit percussion music.

Requirements

• Must be able to learn, and subsequently perform, the percussion music of the various Polynesian cultures represented at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

• Must be able to pass an audition consisting of singing, chanting, and playing one or more of the following instruments: lali, large drum, tin can, bamboo pole, and ipu.

• Must look Polynesian.

• Must be able to communicate in English.

• Must have one year of work experience as a professional drummer.

• Must be available to work through Christmas holiday break.

• Requires good health and a full range of body movement and be capable of moving freely among the guests.

• Should have a high school education.
