We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr. CPT Regulatory & Communications Manager (Hybrid) on our Health Solutions team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office. 

 

This role will serve as a senior regulatory lead responsible for developing and executing the CPT communications program and providing operational leadership for implementation of clinical AI coding initiatives. Partner with AMA leadership, the CPT Editorial Panel, and external stakeholders to support the implementation of CPT priorities related to emerging clinical AI technologies. Leads cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement to support CPT communications and clinical AI coding initiatives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CPT Proactive Communications

  • Develop and execute the CPT proactive communications plan in alignment with organizational priorities, producing written collateral, digital publications, op-eds, and thought leadership organized around core CPT narratives.
  • Manage the CPT story library along with key internal stakeholder business units, coordinating articles, placements, and thought leadership across AMA-owned, earned (trade and peer-reviewed press), and stakeholder-facing channels, and sequencing content against the calendar of CPT milestones and major healthcare conferences.
  • Lead LLM narrative monitoring as a leading indicator of success, establishing a baseline and periodically re-auditing how large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity) characterize CPT, and tracking secondary metrics across content output, earned-media sentiment, stakeholder feedback, and digital engagement. Provide communication recommendations based on insights from stakeholder feedback, media sentiment, and digital engagement metrics.
  • Prepare progress reports and briefings for executive leadership (e.g., CEO/EVP, SVP report-outs), and coordinate the internal communications working group and any outside communications, media, or engagement consultants.
  • Works independently within priorities established by AMA leadership and the CPT Editorial Panel, providing subject matter expertise, implementation leadership, and strategic communications support across cross-functional initiatives.

Clinical AI Coding with the CPT Editorial Panel

  • Provide operational leadership for the development and implementation of AI-related code structures  approved by the CPT Editorial Panel, including as key staff to the Digital Medicine Coding Committee (DMCC).
  • Lead ongoing maintenance of the CPT AI taxonomy, translating advances in autonomous and assistive clinical AI services into appropriate coding approaches.
  • Analyze the capabilities of existing codes against the needs of clinical AI developers and other healthcare stakeholders, and identify coding gaps and alternatives, including coverage and payment approaches, that may drive changes to CPT. Develop recommendations for CPT Editorial Panel consideration.
  • Liaise with external entities such as the FDA, CMS, and industry stakeholders, particularly on AI oversight and the alignment of CPT codes with evolving regulatory frameworks.
