This role is with SecondMuse Foundation, a non-profit corporation created by SecondMuse, and will leverage the relationships and resources of both organizations. This is a remote-first role be based in the US, ideally in one of SecondMuse Foundation's current operating states (Delaware, Illinois, Washington DC, Maryland, Florida, Wisconsin) but open to candidates in all states.
The SecondMuse Foundation is a charitable foundation established in 2019 to empower a community of practitioners and funders to better understand and harness Relational Wealth, to build a world that benefits all people and the planet. The Foundation contributes to thought leadership, field building and the creation of public goods on Relational Wealth and advancement of the ecosystem more broadly. The Foundation is looking to hire an Executive Director (ED) to lead these efforts.
The Mission:
The Foundation envisions a world with zero injustice and sustainable prosperity for people and the planet through deep collaboration across our whole society and building relational wealth. The Foundation’s ambition is to increase relational wealth in our communities, make it easy to understand and commit to as an approach to social change.
The Role:
The role of the Executive Director (ED) is to support the priorities of its Board of Directors, oversee the next phase of strategic planning, and ensure that the people and processes are in place to best execute against the Foundation’s mission. The ED holds responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Foundation, implementation of its mission, management of staff, as well as shaping the expansion and future of the organization through creative vision, inspiring leadership, driving fundraising, and articulating strategic focus through excellent understanding of non-profit governance.
The ED will be the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the Foundation and embody the values of the organization by cultivating, building and maintaining lasting relationships across sectors including with non-profit leaders, government and elected leaders, and other funders. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience as well as an ability to lead in a dynamic and emerging organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
- Reporting to the Board of Directors, leads the implementation and direction of the Foundation’s strategy and development of organizational policies and processes to support it.
- Represents the Foundation by effectively communicating the organization’s mission, vision and program priorities, and develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communications.
- Ensures ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- Ensures effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.
- Leads, coaches, and develops the Foundation’s high-performance senior management team
- Actively engages and energizes the Foundation’s volunteers, interns, staff, board members, committees, partner organizations, and funders.
- Overseeing day-to-day activities of the foundation including conducting performance reviews, preparing comprehensive budgets, reporting on revenue and expenditure, and driving fundraising efforts.
Board Relations
- Works with the Board in order to fulfill the organization mission.
- Responsible for leading the Foundation in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
- Develops, maintains, and supports a strong Board of Directors; serves as ex-officio of each committee; seeks and builds board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing and future programs and operations.
Fundraising & Communications
- Expands revenue generation and fundraising activities to support existing and future program operations and expansion
- Deepens and refines all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger public presence
- Serves as the brand ambassador, relationship
