JOB TITLE: Program Coordinator at CFL at MS 136/821 

DEPARTMENT: School-Based Programming at MS 136/821

Exemption: Non-Exempt  


CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking a Program Coordinator to work with middle school participants. Our community-school partnership at this middle school site provides a diverse range of daily in-school and out-of-school activities.  


Programs are implemented by professional social workers, artists, and young adults from the community, in collaboration with NYC Department of Education teachers and administrators. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and experience in group work and will bring a passion for neighborhood-based work to enrich the lives of youth, families, and community. 


I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to 

  • Be an active member of the team of social workers, teaching artists, and youth development professionals based on-site 
  • Design and implement afterschool activities in a specialty area (such as STEM, media, creative writing, art, etc.) 
  • Assist with the daily running of a complex afterschool program that includes 30+ clubs, SEL and Service-Learning activities, Project-Based Learning, etc. 
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the safety of 200+ students in afterschool per day by maintaining established structures, supporting administrative processes, and helping to uphold student behavioral expectations 
  • Assist with the design and implementation of multiple community events over the course of the school year 
  • Provide crisis intervention with onsite participants  
  • Attend weekly professional development meetings 

II. QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BSW or BA in a related field preferred 
  • Three+ years of experience in youth development field 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred 
  • Must be skilled in running activities in a specialty area (i.e. STEM, media, creative writing, etc.) in a non-traditional classroom setting 
  • Must have a passion for community building and creating positive group experiences for young people 
  • Must have strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills 
  • Must be willing to work with participants with some challenging behaviors 

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS 

  • Ability to be a positive member of a team, be flexible 
  • Must have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization. 
  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change 
  • Is flexible and works well as a member of a team 

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Flexible working in an office setting and non-traditional classroom spaces 
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions and might be required to work in various temperatures to facilitate activities in various locations inside and outside of the school building 
  • May also attend various meetings with different agency departments  

SALARY AND BENEFITS 

  •  Annual salary ranges from $50,000 - $54,000 and is commensurate with experience and education.  
  • Full-time position includes 35 hours of work per week
  • The comprehensive benefits package includes up to four weeks of paid vacation, fourteen paid holidays, medical, dental, and life insurance, and retirement benefits. Additional voluntary benefits include disability, critical illness, and accident.
