BUDGET & POLICY ANALYST
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF PLANNING & BUDGET
The Governor's Office of
Planning and Budget is recruiting for a Budget and Policy Analyst. Budget and
Policy Analysts in this position represent the interests of the Governor's
Office in researching, preparing, and publishing budget recommendations. They
review agency budget requests and policy issues and assist in preparing the
Governor's annual budget recommendations. The position may be filled as a
Budget and Policy Analyst I or Budget and Policy Analyst II, depending on
qualifications and prior experience.
This position may have
the opportunity for a hybrid in-person and remote work schedule.
POSITION DETAILS
& COMMITMENT
-Salary – $33.09 - $51.06/hr
-Work Format – Hybrid (Utah State Capitol)
-Schedule Code – AC - Employees in Offices of Elected Officials
-Background Check Required – You must successfully pass a criminal history check.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities may include, but
are not limited to:
- Designs, enhances, or implements
procedures and tools that streamline budget processes.
- Understanding and applying Utah
accounting structure of revenues and expenditures,
- Recommending changes to accounting
structures to support operational improvements, verifying budgets are
balanced and under the appropriations limit.
- Tracking appropriations, conducting
technical budget reviews, and producing budget reports.
- Reviews and tracks assigned
legislation.
- Effectively represents GOPB when
presenting to departments, committees, and task forces.
- Have the ability to maintain good
working relationships with interested parties.
- Ability to work well under time
restraints and have the ability to remain objective under pressure.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
QUALIFICATIONS
- High level of attention to detail
and able to produce accurate information and reports under time
constraints; errors in analysis or reports may have significant impact on
the state budget and operations.
- Understanding of public finance and
budgeting principles and processes.
- Preference may be given to
candidates that have obtained a master's degree in public administration,
public policy, economics, business administration, political science, or
another relevant discipline.
- Ability to provide accurate
information under time constraints.
- Convey information and ideas
clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Experience with State Government,
specifically working with budgets.
