What You Will Achieve
This position is accountable for developing and delivering chemical engineering process technology in support of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing at Pfizer’s Kalamazoo (Michigan) plant. This position will focus on chemical processing, and fermentation downstream processing , including production troubleshooting, support, and improvement. The incumbent will serve as a primary technical expert for manufacturing processes, will perform and direct laboratory studies, and will support the introduction of new processes into the facility. The incumbent will work closely with the fermentation, isolation, and chemical plants to review procedures/process performance and to solve process problems while providing technical knowledge, expertise, and evaluation for other support functions.

The incumbent conducts exploratory research to produce new knowledge/potential products and executes ideas/plans to increase productivity. The incumbent develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved isolation processes/equipment. The incumbent will report progress of research work, recommend utilization of the results, and may be asked to lead technical or project teams.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, laboratory environment to develop and deliver process technology in support of commercial fermentation and downstream operations

  • Develop, implement, and improve robust commercial processes to make API and intermediates; evaluate new technologies and processes for potential benefit at commercial scale.

  • Apply knowledge to several areas of the plant, recognize opportunities to apply new ideas in novel applications, and progress multiple projects of technical complexity in parallel.

  • Work under minimal supervision, recommend actions, set objectives of projects, self-initiate short term projects, and independently determine and develop experimental programs.

  • Represent the organization as the technical contact on projects; begin to act as an advisor to management, offering recommendations and assessments; accomplish results through lower level colleagues. Maintain laboratory area and equipment in a clean, safe, functional order.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

  • Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

  • Preference is given to applicants with previous experience in a research laboratory setting, a strong background of traditional bioprocessing (fermentation, bioconversion, downstream purification, etc.), and/or a working knowledge of cGMP/statistical methods.

  

Work Location Assignment: On Premise

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $96,300.00 to $160,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
