Job Summary:  

The Mayor's Office Internship program provides students the opportunity to learn about and contribute to city government, hear from local leaders, and experience the day-to-day operations of Baltimore. This is a great opportunity for students interested in starting a career in public service or generally learning more about the structure of local government. Our interns develop foundational knowledge, communication skills, and a strong network of community leaders and organizations during the program all while getting to know and fall in love with Baltimore.

Essential Functions:

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining office files, documents, and records.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff members.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, appointments, and events.
  • Handle routine correspondence and communications.
  • Data Entry:
  • Accurately input data into relevant databases and information systems.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating databases, ensuring data integrity.
  • Help generate reports and summaries from collected data as needed.

Collaborate with team members to ensure data consistency and accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of office administration, policies, practices, and procedures
  • Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner
  • Strong telephone, computer, and related technology skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to prioritization of and recommendations on appointments
  • Proficiency in word processing
  • Strong organizational and filing skills

Education:

High School Diploma, Current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program

Experience:

  • Experience working with or within city government preferred.

Background Check
