The Classroom Teacher will be responsible for fostering the intellectual and social development of children in Elementary School. The Classroom Teacher will prepare Lesson Plans each week and teach core curriculum to a community of Osage learners. The Classroom Teacher will be required to teach children all core subjects and develop a strong relationship with them through positive reinforcement and classroom management. Core skills and objectives are taught to mastery as prescribed by State Education Standards. Additionally, the Classroom Teacher will cultivate an understanding and appreciation of Osage language and culture, inspiring self-esteem and strengthening attitudes among the students and their community. The Classroom Teacher creates lesson plans and teaches those plans to the entire class; tracks student progress and presents the information to parents; creates tests, creates and reinforces classroom rules, and prepares students for standardized tests. There is a salary increase when the teacher becomes certified.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Education or related field preferred
- Associate’s Degree required
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and the public
- Some knowledge of Osage Language preferred
- Openness to learning Osage Language required
- Be a student of the Osage Language required
- Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
- Requires a willingness to learn new skills
- Requires an attitude of excellence
- Must be willing to travel to conferences and training sessions
- Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license – may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicles
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
