Postdoctoral Researcher IOR Pathophysiology of Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Diseases

 

The primary function of the Postdoctoral Researcher is to support the development of the strategic research projects of the Institute for Obesity Research (IOR) in the areas of diabetes pathophysiology, cardiometabolic diseases, and cell therapies.

 

The candidate will be responsible for executing projects focused on preclinical models, including syngeneic and xenogeneic islet and spheroid transplantation, and the use of advanced imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy. Additionally, the candidate must be proficient in laboratory techniques with a special emphasis on cellular and molecular biology, analysis of gene and protein expression, measurement of intracellular calcium dynamics, confocal microscopy, cell culture of cell lines, primary culture, and 3D culture of spheroids and organoids, as well as skills in handling and experimentation with preclinical animal models.

 

The candidate must publish scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals with high impact factors, ensuring good visibility for the group and the institution through presentations at national and international conferences. The researcher will also mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and support professors and specialists. Furthermore, the candidate will participate in funding calls to attract research funds for the IOR.

 

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in bioengineering, medicine, biosciences, or related fields (degree completion required or defense already conducted).
• At least two years of demonstrable research experience with three or more scientific outputs (publications in Q1/Q2 journals).
• Knowledge of confocal microscopy techniques, animal handling, and cell culture.
• Experience with biological samples (blood, tissues/organs, biopsies).
• Motivation for writing scientific articles, research protocols, and proposals for attracting financial resources.
• Enthusiasm for training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
• Excellent command of English (B2 level or 600 points on the TOEFL).

 

Responsibilities:

• Leading the development and execution of a research project: designing and conducting laboratory experiments, training, and optimizing conventional laboratory techniques, and handling and experimenting with animal models.
• Participating in the processes of obtaining and quality control of human and animal pancreatic islets.
• Supporting and participating in the training of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Ensuring good visibility for the group and institution through presentations at seminars and national and international conferences, and publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals with high impact factors.
• Participating in the design and drafting of projects to attract national and international funding for the IOR.
• Overseeing the daily activities of the research laboratory, managing laboratory equipment and consumables, and supporting undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professors and specialists.
