The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Radiation Therapist at our Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

SUMMARY

The Chief Radiation Therapist under the general direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager or Director is responsible for the smooth patient throughput and supervision of functions related to the day to day operation of the Radiation Oncology treatment clinic. The Chief Radiation Therapist is responsible for operations of the clinic in the absence of the Manager.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Administers and simulates radiation therapy treatments, to include HDR, IMRT, IGRT, CBCT & other modalities as needed. 

  •           Directs work of Radiation Therapists to include accuracy of work, productivity and progress of patients.

  •       Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.

  •          Adheres to radiation safety procedure protocol.

  •            Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that customized to the patient’s needs.

  •           Assists with Human Resources responsibilities.

  •           Actively participates in training and orientation of new employees as well as developing unit objectives.

  •            Incorporates department and hospital policies and procedures into care provided and assists with the  interpretation of policies and procedures.

  •          Collaborates with Medical Oncology, Nutritional Services & Social Services for the coordination of patient care and schedules for radiation patients.

•             Ensures proper inventory and management of technical supplies.

•             Understands and trouble-shoots all the complex technological equipment necessary to the department for the delivery of safe, appropriate & effective patient care. 

•             Ensures the effective scheduling of new start patients, daily treatments & simulations.

•             Provides back-up for Manager in their absence or when requested as needed.

•             Advises and updates staff on procedural changes.

•             Attends operations, CQI and managers meetings or others as requested

•             Assigns and monitors the work of Radiation Therapist to ensure accuracy and productivity standards are met.

•             Maintains clinical/technical proficiency and provides coverage as needed.

•             Collaborates with Manager or Director to ensure appropriate level of staffing.

•             Performs other related duties as assigned.
