About the role

 

Job Title: UI/Dashboard Developer Co-op

 

The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group addresses the most impactful and challenging current and emerging national security challenges using advanced biological and chemical technologies for sponsors across the United States government. Capabilities within the Group include AI/ML, data management, bioinformatics, high-performance computing, cloud computing, molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology; microbiome engineering; organic & analytical chemistry, and rapid DNA sequencing. These capabilities are applied to missions spanning chemical, biological, and explosives (CBE) detection and attribution; medical diagnostics and countermeasures; pathogen identification; point-of-care diagnostics; molecular intelligence; biosecurity; and DNA forensics. 
 

 

Job Description: 

 

The candidate will work as a member of our research group to learn and assist with translating technical conclusions into user-friendly deliverables through development of interactive dashboards (and other web-hosted content).  The candidate will provide input on the design of these dashboards. The candidate will also work with our administrative team to implement improvements to existing web sites. The candidate will work closely with experts in biotechnology and biosecurity to produce highly impactful analysis products.

 

Candidates must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision and work well with staff and management. Strong problem-solving skills will be required to come up with innovative solutions to challenging problems. 

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Must be a student currently enrolled in the pursuit of an undergraduate (BA/BS/BE) or graduate (MA/MS) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Digital mediator, or similar scientific discipline 
  • Experienced coder in one or more of the following programming languages: React, JSP, HTML, CSS 
  • Experience with one or more issue tracking tools (e.g. Git) 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and graphical) are highly desired 
  • U.S. citizenship required 

 

 

 An ideal candidate will have: 

 

  • Experience with Agile software development principles 
  • Experience with SharePoint 
  • Experience with UI and/or interactive dashboard design 
  • Interest in learning about

 

    • Technical communication
    • Systems analysis 

 

 

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
