About the role
Provide Materials & Processes engineering technical expertise to Columbia Helicopters engineering and manufacturing organizations involved in the design, fabrication and maintenance of aircraft flight critical hardware.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- 50% - Supports the Manufacturing Integrated Product Team by (1) performing the engineering review of manufacturing planning, (2) participating in supplier technical interchange meetings and (3) evaluating suppliers and materials used by suppliers to ensure they are capable of meeting Columbia Helicopters requirements.
- 20% - Plans, executes and oversees the qualification testing of Columbia Helicopters new parts and/or new part suppliers including metallurgical and fatigue test analysis.
- 10% - Maintain interactions with suppliers on issues such as materials or processes obsolescence and the Columbia Helicopters critical parts list.
- 10% -Analyze and document technical conclusions of hardware failure. Perform engineering analysis of nonconforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Participates in Design Reviews and Engineering Change approval.
- 5% - Supports maintenance activities as a resource regarding proper processing during repair and/or overhaul activity.
- 5% - Support new and/or replacement product evaluations with a variety of material tasks such as evaluating, stress corrosion, corrosion resistance, fuel compatibility, metallic and non-metallic joining techniques, and identification of advanced materials. Leading the development of criteria and establishing standards for experimental, test and/or production purposes. Performing laboratory and manufacturing experiments and interpreting, analyzing, evaluating and reporting on data and processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- BS degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering and 5 years of materials experience with 2 years of related experience in the Aviation / Aerospace field is desired or other equivalent experience. Recent college applicants with degree listed above will be considered.
- Strong background in processing requirements for high-strength steels preferred
- Background in corrosion prevention coatings, and plating systems desired
- Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Familiar with capabilities and function of inspection tools / methods such as (but not limited to) Ultrasonic, Eddy Current, Fluorescent Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle Inspection and X-ray
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
