Role Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer uses technical and commercial knowledge to provide support for new customer applications and sustaining current product designs. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for selection, evaluation, and modification of IMI products to meet our customer’s needs. This role applies knowledge of fluid control products to recommend and design new products into various applications. The role also provides support to existing customers with technical support recommendations and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Interfacing with customers to determine and document requirements and specifications; Create design proposals, sketches, and drawings for internal and customer approval; developing quotes for custom products; and expediting prototypes and as part of the initial customer approval process. 

Work Environment: Onsite in Plymouth, MN

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute changes in product designs to meet customer requirements, including executing solid modeling in Solidworks, executing engineering drawing changes, and making necessary updates in Epicor to release the design change to manfacturing.
  • Review opportunites to improve design for manufacturing of machined & assembled components.
  • Cooperate with teammembers in manufacturing engineering, operations, supply chain, & quality to ensure designs are successfully implemented.
  • Support the quoting of custom products.
  • Complete failure investigation & root cause analsysis.
  • Provide the highest quality level of technical product support to customers
  • Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and process all opportunities for engineering projects. Complete them in the requested time and document all correspondence.
  • Participate in and promote process improvements within assigned areas. 
  • Provide input to Marketing on technical aspects of our products and applications, sales literature, catalogs, website, etc.
  • Lead development of solutions to customer needs ensuring the goal of exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ensures design meet reliability and process capability criteria. 

 

Critical Competencies for Success:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • 4+ years of experience in related field required, which can include post-graduate experience
  • Experience in design and testing in a manufacturing and machining environment
  • Proficient in Solidworks, Inventor, or other CAD software  (Solidworks preferred)
  • Proficient in engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Expereince with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentations to customers, peers and executives. Writes and communicates technical reports. Solid technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.)
  • Competent complex problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective design risk management using Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Ability to operate effectively in the project team environment, including manufacturing engineering, quality, operations, supply chain and internal/external customers..
  • Epicor or other ERP system experience desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word
  • Willingness to travel as required for customer, supplier, or site visits.  (<5% Travel)

 

Pay range: $95k-$105k
